GEN Technologies, an authorized partner of Rhino by McNeel, would like to remind customers that it may be time to upgrade older Rhino licenses. All good things come to an end — maybe. If you are still running a Rhino 5 or earlier license, now is a good moment to consider moving to the current version while favorable upgrade conditions are in place.

The Good News

You can still upgrade at the same discounted upgrade price. There is no penalty for not upgrading earlier — any older version of Rhino can be upgraded for the same price.

The Bad News

Over the past 20 years, technology has evolved significantly. As a result, older versions of Rhino may not run reliably if you update your hardware or operating system. Rhino 5 has not received bug fixes or security patches since 2017, and the vendor's ability to provide technical support for legacy versions is increasingly limited.

Warning: planning to upgrade your computer or OS? Rhino 5 and earlier will not run on Windows 11, and Rhino 5 will not run on macOS Tahoe (version 26).

Upgrade Checklist

Please review the system requirements before you order. Note that Rhino 8 runs on both Windows and Mac. Rhino licenses never expire — there are no subscription, maintenance, or support fees. Any older version of Rhino can be upgraded for the same discounted upgrade price; evaluation and NFR versions are not upgradable. You will need your old license key to complete the upgrade.
